Types Of Mini Bikes

Mini bikes are the latest craze throughout the world, with more and more people getting involved in the mini bike scene. So are you wondering whether or not to get a mini bike? Well there are several factors which must be taken into account beforehand.

Firstly, do you know exactly what a mini bike is? Mini bikes are miniature replicas of larger motorcycles, most have a petrol engine, and are usually 39cc or 49cc although many of these pocket bikes are now being produced with a higher engine displacement, in some cases up to 200cc. Mini bikes are capable of very high speeds, with the slowest bikes still being able to easily reach 35-40mph.

Bikes

Well now you know what a Mini bike is it is time to decide whether or not they are for you. If you think you would love the feeling of riding at 40+ mph, inches from the ground then you have found your ideal sport! Mini bikes are a great way of getting into motor racing, as they are relatively cheap with all the spills and thrills of racing larger bikes.

If you are still interested in buying a mini bike then you must ask yourself what you want from it. For example are you buying a mini bike to ride around with your mates? Or are you buying it to become the next Valentino Rossi? Well whatever your needs, there are certain regulations which must be taken into account.

Mini bikes are illegal when ridden in a public place, and can be crushed if used illegally. So if you do not have any private property or a track which you can go to then maybe you should rethink buying one.

If you are still up for getting into the craze, then you are ready to decide what type of bike you want to ride. There are so many different types of mini bikes available so you may get lost. So what do you want a mini bike for?

If you want to race the bikes in a league then the mini bike you buy must comply with regulations and must therefore be a race certified mini bike, these are usually more expensive than other bikes on the market but are far greater quality with more parts and performance bolt ons available.

If racing these mini bikes is not for you then you can look at the more affordable mini motorbikes, these are just as much fun, but do not come with the large price tag. These bikes however must be used on private property, with the owners permission, or you could face prosecution. Alternatively there are open races set up where bikes like this will be allowed to enter.

There are many different types of mini bikes available for you to buy so selecting the correct style depends on what you want the bike for. The most common style of mini bike is the small road style mini bikes, also known as pocket bikes or mini motos. These have road tires and look like road racing bikes. Usually these bikes do not come with any suspension and a very low ground clearance so make sure if you want a bike like this then you have a smooth, flat surface to ride on.

The next style of mini bike is the mini dirt bike, these are smaller versions of larger dirt bikes, they are built for going off road with larger wheels and more suited tires, as well as a more robust build. So if you want a mini bike which you can ride around a field all day then a mini dirt bike is probably the best choice.

If you want a comfortable bike with a 'cool' image then I think it is fair to say that the best mini bike for you will be a mini bike chopper, these look great with the looks of the larger choppers available today. These are commonly seen at bike shows, with a lot of the bigger bikes and do not look out of place.

Finally, if you do not feel too steady on two wheels then maybe a mini bike quad is the answer, these are tiny quad bikes, about the same size as a mini bike but with four wheels. These also usually have the same engine as most smaller mini bikes. These are great if you prefer riding quads over motorbikes.

If you are still unsure and need more information on which mini bike will be best for you then visit http://www.minimotosgo.com and get some more great advice.

Full Suspension Mountain Bikes Vs Hardtail Mountain Bikes - FAQ

I have started to loose count of the number of times I've heard questions such as, "What type of mountain bike should I buy?" and "What is the difference between a full suspension mountain bike and a hardtail mountain bike?" One type of bike is not better than the other. The choice between the two should be made based on the riders' personal riding preferences, budget and physical capabilities. The FAQ below was compiled in order to help you with this all-important choice.

Question: What are full suspension bikes?

Answer: Also known as dual-suspension mountain bikes, these bikes have shock absorbers installed in both the front and rear tires.

Bikes

Question: What are hardtail bikes?

Answer: Also known as front or single suspension mountain bikes, these bikes have shock absorbers installed in the front tire only.

Question: Which type of mountain bike tends to be faster?

Answer: Hardtail bikes tend to be faster and pedal easier in smooth terrain than full suspension mountain bikes because of the former's light weight and stiff rear end.

Question: Which bike is better at handling obstacles and rough terrain?

Answer: Because of the shock absorbers in both the front and the rear, full suspension bikes outperform hardtails in rough terrain. The suspension absorbs the impact of obstacles and allows for more traction to be transferred to the ground.

Question: Which bike is better at climbing hills?

Answer: Because of their light weight and easier handling, hardtail mountain bikes are better at climbing hills. However, full suspension mountain bikes do outperform hardtails on hills that are made up of rough terrain.

Question: Which is more affordable?

Answer: Hardtail bikes are usally more affordable than full suspension bikes of similar quality.

Now you are equipped with the information you need to make the right choice. Happy Trailing!

Quad Bikes - Road Legal Or Off Road?

One of the most frequently asked questions we get asked is about the legalities of Quad Bikes and if the are road legal ready to ride or just off road fun bikes. The difference is this:

Road Legal Quad Bikes -

  • All UK Road Legal Bikes must have a registration certificate or a V5 as it is known. Without a V5 then the vehicle is not suitable for road use and should not be used on a public highway.

  • Not all factory fitted lighting systems will conform with UK MOT standards. This is due to, in most cases, the switching system for side, main and high beam not being available.

  • Standard exhaust systems may not always conform with the harmonic legislation due to the bike being designed for off road use only.

  • On a safety level, some fuel tanks do not comply with UK road regulations. This again is due to the construction of the tank and materials used

  • Should you wish to convert an Off Road machine into a Road Legal Quad Bike it must firstly go through the Ministry test for Homologation & SVA certification.

  • Once the Bike has been tested, it must then be retested every three years by a certified Ministry of Transport Testing Station.

  • The output of the engine for a Quad Bike being used of UK roads should be restricted to 18bhp before being tested for the Homologation & SVA Certificate.

  • To ride one on the UK public highways you should have the UK Standard Car Driving Licence which means you can not drive a Road Legal Quad Bike until you are 17 years old.

  • Road Legal Tyres are required for and Quad Bike to be used on the UK Roads. These can be identified by a small "CE" logo on the outer wall of the tyre.

  • It is not necessary to wear a crash helmet on the road as of the day this article was submitted. This being said, we always recommend that you wear a crash helmet at all times for safety reasons.

  • Some Road Legal Quad Bikes and ATV's are Homologated for use of more than one person. This means that only certain machines can legally carry passengers even though they all have double seats.

  • Once a Quad Bike or ATV has been legally registered for the road, you must then have a public Quad Bike Insurance policy before taking it out.
For your own safety it is always advisable to take the necessary training on how to handle a Quad Bike or ATV. Should you purchase a New or Used Quad Bike or ATV from a recognized dealer in the UK, most of them will advise where you can take lessons and training making sure you are competent before taking your machine on its first trip out.

Bikes

It is always advisable to take some sort of training. Then, once you have completed the course, you will be far stronger mentally on how to ride and what the legislation is at that time.

Exercise Bikes - Which Kind of Exercise Bike Is Right For You?

Buying an exercise bike? These bikes are some of most popular pieces of fitness equipment because they are affordable, easy to use and can last you a very long time.

But if you've started shopping, you'll probably notice that there are several different types of exercise bikes including upright, recumbent, semi-recumbent, dual action and even indoor cycling bikes. How do you choose the best one for your needs?

Bikes

This article will give you some background on different types of fitness bikes so you can decide which kind you want for your home exercise gym:

#1 Upright

Upright bikes were the only option you had for years. They look similar to an outdoor bike (but they don't have wheels, chains etc. to be mobile). They have a typical bicycle seat and your feet hang down to reach the pedals. Upright bikes come in all different price categories from starter to commercial grade models.

Some advantages of these bikes are that many experts think they are better at burning calories and tend to take up less space than a recumbent bike. They can also be a great way for cyclist to train indoors during the winter months.

#2 Recumbent

These have bucket-like seats and your legs are angled out (or slightly down) in front of you (instead of hanging down like in an upright model). Because the seats have more padding and better back support than upright bikes, these bikes are very popular with new exercisers, older users or anyone prone to injuries. They're also an excellent low-impact way to exercise for those who are just starting a fitness routine.

In addition to being more comfortable overall (than upright bikes), recumbent bikes also tend to be lower to the ground (less injuries) and have lots of built-in features like pre-programmed workouts, bright, LCD consoles and even mp3 docks with speakers.

#3 Semi-Recumbent

While this term can sometimes be used interchangeably with recumbent bikes, an actual semi-recumbent bike is a cross between the recumbent and the upright bike. The seat is similar to a recumbent seat but the pedals are angled a little lower than a regular recumbent (but not straight down as you'd find on an upright bike).

The benefits of this design is that many sellers claim you get the calorie-burning benefits of an upright bike combined with the comfort of a recumbent. However it is fair to note that these bikes are not as common or as easy to find as the first 2 options above.

#4 Dual Action Bike

This is a spin-off of the upright bike and there are only a few of these on the market as well. These bikes are similar to the upright bike but they also have movable bars or levers on arm handles to incorporate your upper body into the workout.

Using the upper body arm bars can help work your arms, chest, abs, and back muscles. This can increase overall aerobic intensity, burn more calories and provide a higher intensity workout challenge. Upper body arms can also help for those who don't want to work their legs as hard because of injury or muscle strain.

The downside is that the consoles on these bikes are very simple, They don't have all the fitness "extras" you get with recumbents like large, backlit consoles, loads of built-in workouts, heart rate monitors and iPod docks. They also don't give you the back support of a recumbent machine.

#5 Indoor Cycling Bikes

You've probably seen these types of exercise bikes at the local gym for their exercises classes. These are similar to upright bikes but much more advanced in terms of features. They are built mainly for the serious athlete or biking enthusiast for year-round training.

You can find everything on these bikes from drop handlebars (to simulate outdoor riding), onboard computers to track your workout stats and SPD-compatible pedals that can be used with professional cycling shoes.

The downside is that these bikes may be a bit more than the average exerciser needs (they also tend to cost more than the average recumbent bike).

So those are some of your options when it comes to buying an exercise bike. What you choose depends on your goals, lifestyle, health issues and workout preferences.

On the positive side, there's never been a better time to buy a fitness bike as they are more affordable and loaded with fun features than ever before. So you're sure to find a model that you love.

Types of Mountain Bikes: Tips for Choosing the Best

Before buying a mountain bike, think about what type of riding you are planning to do. Are you into mostly smooth hardpack with little obstacles or bumpy technical singletrack with lots of rocks and logs? Do you want to do drops and jumps with your bicycle? Are you planning to race or use the bike for recreational riding? Once you figure out what type of riding you will be doing, you can narrow your focus to what type of bike you want.

1. Hardtail vs. Full Suspension

Bikes

Hardtail Mountain Bikes: Hardtails have suspension in the front fork, but not in the rear of the bike. They are good for racing and climbing because they are lighter and more efficient than full suspension mountain bikes. Hardtails perform well on smooth hardpack, but on more bumpy and technical terrain, they do not perform as well or are as comfortable as a full suspension. In general, hardtails are less expensive than full suspension bikes.

Full Suspension Mountain Bikes: Full suspension bikes have suspension in the front fork and in the frame of the bike. They perform better and are more comfortable on technical terrain because they absorb bumps better than hardtail bikes. Full suspension bikes come in a variety of options that range in price, weight, amount of suspension, and components.

2. How much suspension do you need?:

Full suspension bikes come in several different categories:

Cross Country Race: Lightest in weight. Usually around 100 mm of suspension. Best for racing and climbing.

Cross Country Trail/Marathon: A little heavier than cross country race bikes, usually having 120-140 mm of suspension. Better for more epic rides because more comfortable. Increasingly more lightweight options in this category available for more cost, which make them a good bike for longer races.

All Mountain/Enduro: Burlier and heavier than cross country bikes, often having around 140-160 mm of suspension. Harder to climb with them, but great for more gnarly downhill riding.

Freeride Bikes: Burlier and heavier than all mountain, usually equipped with 160-180 mm of suspension. Great for technical stunts, jumps, and drops. Not good for climbing.

Downhill Bikes: The burliest and heaviest type of mountain bike, often having 180-220 mm of suspension. Made for taking up a lift or shuttle and riding downhill fast and furious. Can handle drops of several feet. Not made for climbing.

3. 26 Inch vs 29 Inch Wheels:

Traditionally, mountain bikes have had wheels that are 26 inches in diameter. More recently, 29er mountain bikes have entered the market. 29ers have wheels that are 29 inches in diameter. There are many advantages of this larger wheel size, but it may not be the right choice for everyone.

Cyclocross Road Bikes For Competitive Cyclists

Are you ready to unleash the competitive cyclist in you? Ever been overtaken like you are standing still while riding on the road? I'm sure you must have felt the urge to chase the rider down. But the problem is, your bike just won't go any faster regardless of how much power you put into it.

To be able to ride faster, you soon realize that the only way to do so is to upgrade your bike. At this points, many issues may start to cross your mind. Do you really need a faster bike? What type of terrain are you going to ride the bike on? Traditionally, only 2 options are available. You either go for a mountain bike (upgrade to slick tires for more speed) or a roadie. However, with the industry constantly evolving, you can consider buying a cyclocross bike.

Bikes

What is a cyclocross bike? And how is it different from a roadie or a mountain bike?

This bike resembles a traditional road bike. However, it is built with a more sturdy and durable setup in order for it to brave tougher terrain. In other words, you can ride a cyclocross road bike on rougher tracks like dirt tracks. Compared to a mountain bike, this bike can go a lot faster. Of course, to achieve a higher level of durability, some speed is lost. That means it won't go as fast as a traditional road bike. But it will easily win a road race if the route consist of some uneven turf.

Besides durability, you also find that the ride is more comfortable.

Hero Honda Bikes - Two Wheeler Vehicles of Indians

Hero Honda has been the market leader in manufacturing motor-cylces in India for years, with its two wheelers being favorite amongst Indians. The company is a joint venture between Hero Group of India and Japanese auto giant Honda. As of now the company is the largest manufacturer of two-wheelers in the world.

Hero Honda was established in 1984. The company started to roll out vehicles and soon the products of the company became popular with Indian buyers due to their fuel efficiency and dependability. Splendor has been the best seller-bike, which sells more than 1 million bikes a year.

Bikes

As of now the company Hero Honda has 3 manufacturing plants. Two are based at Dharuhera and Gurgaon in Haryana, while the third is at Haridwar in Uttarakhand. The company brings out around 39 lakh bikes annually. The company has a sales and service network of more than 3,000 dealerships and service stations in the country.

After the opening of the Indian economy, the auto industry in India has been growing fast. All major companies like Toyota, Ford, Honda, BMW, Mercedes etc are now operating in the Indian car market. With the growing sales of cars, even bike sales have gone up significantly. Many people used to think that bike sales will get influenced by the large number of sales of cars in India. However, they all have been proved wrong as bikes are still selling in large numbers. The middle class Indians still prefer a mean of commuting which is both economical and dependable. Bikes are good for the Indian market as they are cheaper to buy and less expensive to maintain.

One reason of the success of Hero Honda was also the closed economy of the country, that did not encourage presence of large number of players in the market. The competition was not good enough at that time. At that time the waiting period of scooters of Bajaj was too long. Even other two-wheeler makers like Royal Enfield and Escort had long waiting lists. The large amount of production and expansion of selling point was also a reason of the success of Hero Honda bikes.

Cannondale Road Bikes - What Kind of Rider Are You?

It is important to know what type of rider you are before purchasing a new bike. The type of rider you are determines which bike and accessories fit you best. Most road riders fit into one of four groups: cyclocross rider, elite road rider, performance road rider, and the multisport rider.

Cyclocross Road Rider: If you enjoy the fall chill and a mud covered bike, this is you. The cyclocross rider loves the Cannondale Cyclocross series. The frame is light weight and all aluminum, which helps make it a true all purpose bike.

Bikes

Elite Road Rider: You are an elite road rider if you daydream of riding the best climbing bike all the way to the top of the Tourmalet or racing ahead on a super efficient bike. There are more bikes to choose from in this category, which are the SuperSix, Six, and Caad9.

The SuperSix is constructed entirely of HI-MODulus, unidirectional carbon fiber that delivers a precise and efficient ride when it really counts.

The Six line is the bike of choice for racers world wide. They are full carbon and have the pro-Tour features that the other Elite bikes have.

The last line for the elite rider is the CAAD9 line. It is an aluminum bike that mixes comfort with race winning characteristics.

Performance Road Rider: The performance rider expects high performance with high comfort as well. The recommended bike for this group is the Cannondale Synapse, which is ultra comfortable and has a variety of frame materials and paint jobs to choose from.

Multisport Road Rider: Last but not least, the multisport road rider has Kona to think of. For this group, the Cannondale Slice is the way to go. Its race proven design puts the rider in a lower position allowing minutes to fall off of their best times.

Cannondale Mountain Bikes: Among the Best

Beginning in 1971, the Cannondale Bicycle Corporation was started by a few friends to make backpacks and bags for camping. In 1983 they began to make aluminum bike frames and since the rise in popularity in the early part of the 1990's they have become among the leaders in building not only mountain bikes, but machines for whatever path you want to ride.

You won't find Cannondale at the major one-stop type of store, they are only sold through dealers and are top of the line and made to take the punishment of rugged mountain trails and you can rely on them ride after ride.

Bikes

Something for All Types of Riders

As there are many different types of trails and terrains, paths and parks, Cannondale makes a machine that will handle whatever your choice is.

The main categories of mountain bikes are:

#1) OverMountain - There are 2 different series' in this category, the Jekyll and the Claymore. Claymore bikes are bad to the bone but lightweight and well-built. These bikes will take a pounding and yet deliver the ultimate in control with the Radical Dyad Tr2 Dual Shock and the Linear to Progressive Leverage Ratio. These features work together to give you a great ride that doesn't get loose and can really handle the bumps. Another great feature is the attitude adjustment for uphill or downhill. Don't you just wish some people came with attitude adjustment! If you're looking for something a little different in over the mountain bikes, there is also the Jekyll series to choose from.

#2) Full Suspension - This category has the RX120 series and the Scalpel series. The Scalpel provides the rider with many different configurations for the suspension so the individual can have that perfect fit just for them. It's considered one of the highest efficiency dual suspensions out there, and with the Zero pivot feature there are no bushings or bearing to wear out or cause looseness in the ride. These are great race performance bikes.

#3) Hardtail - Can you believe a bike can only weigh just over 2 lbs.? Well the Hardtail Flash does, and there's no lighter bike in its class. They use Ballistec Carbon Technology, which is said to provide an awesome stiffness to weight ratio that really stands out. The Hardtail category is rounded out with the Trail SL series. Made for racing, they augmented the seat and chain stays giving it lateral firmness and sucking up the bumps providing a comfortable ride without losing power.

#4) 29'er - These bikes are made for trails with large obstacles. They have larger wheels that go over them with no problem. If you're a novelist this is a good start for you because it has what you need without the extra's that you can do without. For the "old-school" riders, there is the Trail SL 29 3, which starts out as a one speed, but if you like you can add gears real quick and easy by changing the derailleur hanger.

Sizes That Fit Everyone

How many of you out there tried to ride a bike that was too big for you at some point in your life? A lot of hands just went up! Well, people are not all the same sizes and neither are all of Cannondales mountain bikes. No matter where you ride, you need the right size bike to ensure a safe and comfortable ride. Also, when you're on the trails, you use up a lot more energy trying to keep your bike upright if it's too big or too small. For that reason, most models of Cannondale bikes offer small, medium, large and extra-large sizes.

If you are seriously in to riding the mountain trails or bike parks, Cannondale Mountain Bikes are for you. They have done their homework and created some of the best bikes in the world. So you can spend a little and get a little, or you can spend your money wisely. If you choose to spend wisely, I recommend taking a good look at what Cannondale has to offer.

Road Bikes

Road bikes (sometimes known in the UK and some other countries as "racing bikes") are lightweight bikes designed for speedy on relatively smooth terrain. These bikes are equipped with narrow wheels and tyres pumped to high pressure, and shaped (including drop handlebars) such that the rider sits in an aerodynamic, stretched-out position. Furthermore the brake-levers and gear shifters are often positioned sich that you can reach them without taking your hands off the handlebars, and hence make speedy gear changes.

Although riding one of these bikes, especially at speed, can be a lot of fun, road bikes are not usually the best choice for urban commuting. The bikes do tend to be relatively delicate, the range of gear ratios may not be sufficient if there are steep hills in your area, and the the brakes may not be good enough for emergency stops.

Bikes

Another thing to bear in mind is that road bikes don't usually have mudguards, or even the capacity to attach them - as a result, you can't simply hop on your bike in your work clothes and expect the mudguards to protect them. Furthermore, road bikes made not have braze-ons for a carry rack, and even if you can attach a rack directly to the frame, you do need to remember that road bikes are not designed to carry heavy loads.

In short, if you're looking for a sturdy durable bike, then a road bike may not be the best choice for you, and perhaps you ought to consider a mountain bike or a hybrid bike. On the other hand, if you think you'll enjoy zipping through country lanes at speed, then a road bike is the ideal choice.
